  While Linda Reid, BC’s Minister of State for Child care, proudly claims that she is looking for the widest possible range of views about how BC should spend $633 million from the federal government for regulated child care, parents, child care providers and early childhood organizations are scrambling to find out when and where their voices can be heard.

Our Child Care Plan clearly demonstrate that if there is political will, a system can be built, and it sets a standard by which BC’s Child Care Action Plan can and will be judged.

  Today, the federal government signed bilateral agreements on child care with Manitoba and Saskatchewan but in BC families are still awaiting a good deal for our children. The child care deals are great news for children and families in two provinces and should spur British Columbia to negotiate an equal or better agreement for the children in this province.

  On Feb. 11 Ken Dryden will meet with his provincial and territorial counterparts in Vancouver to negotiate a new child care agreement. If Minister Dryden needs any further evidence that this agreement must hold provinces accountable for using federal funds to build a child care system, he need look no further than BC.
