2021 Solidarity Statement

The Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC (CCCABC) is in solidarity with the peaceful land defenders in unceded Wet’suwet’en territory, adding our voices to the many calling for an end to violence against Wet’suwet’en people and their allies.

And, we lift up the words of Sleydo’ Molly Wickham:

“The Wet’suwet’en people, under the governance of their Hereditary Chiefs, are standing in the way of the largest fracking project in Canadian history. Our medicines, our berries, our food, the animals, our water, our culture, our homes are all here since time immemorial. We will never abandon our children to live in a world with no clean water.”

CCCABC’s child care goals support and advance “the rights of Indigenous families and communities to retain and recover shared responsibility for the upbringing, education, and well-being of their children” (BC Early Learning Framework, p. 31), as articulated in numerous reports and commitments made by the federal and BC government.
